The Real Cost of Waiting on a Quote

Nobody talks about the cost of waiting.

You email an agency for a landing page. They take three days to respond. Another week to send a quote. You negotiate, or you don't — either way, two more weeks pass before a first draft lands in your inbox. You request changes. Wait again.

Six weeks later, you have a landing page.

What actually happened during those six weeks

This is the part that gets skipped over. The landing page didn't just arrive late — everything that depended on it arrived late too.

Week 1
Campaign planning paused, waiting on the page to exist before booking ad spend.
Week 2–3
Quote negotiation. Momentum from the original idea starts fading.
Week 4
First draft. Doesn't match the brief closely enough — round one of revisions.
Week 5–6
Final delivery. The "urgent" launch that prompted the request happened without it, or got pushed to fit the timeline.

The design itself didn't cost much more than expected. The six weeks of opportunity — the campaign that could have run, the launch that could have had its supporting page — that's the part that never shows up on an invoice.

The design didn't cost the business money. The wait did.

Why this keeps happening

It's not that agencies or freelancers are slow on purpose. It's that the traditional model — bespoke quoting, project-by-project negotiation, sequential handoffs between designer and developer — adds friction at every single step by design. Each step exists for a reason. Together, they add weeks.

Most SA businesses have simply adapted to this as the cost of getting design work done. Budget extra time. Submit requests earlier than you need to. Build in slack for the inevitable delay.

That adaptation is reasonable. It's also avoidable.
